Sports and Recreation

- Category: Applications
From bats and bikes to canoes and cameras, sports and recreation applications for polyurethanes abound. The industry relies on the protective qualities of polyurethane foams, the wear resistance of Shore D hardness casting systems and the toughened, high impact strength of high performance polyurethanes. Other benefits of liquid plastic casting resins for sporting goods are the ability of the systems to maintain their strength when exposed to moisture as well as full submersion for underwater applications.
Innovative Polymers is an established supplier to the sports and recreation industry. Among the primary products we formulate for sporting good manufacturers are:
IE Series™ Shore A Liquid Urethanes are easy to cast as end-plugging compounds for such products as baseball and softball bats. The cured materials are semi-flexible with good tensile strength and elongation.
IE Series™ Shore D Liquid Urethanes feature low, easy to cast viscosities and are easily pigmented. Cured products exhibit properties including abrasion resistance, good flexural modulus, good tensile strength and the ability to withstand underwater use at depths of up to 200 feet below the water surface.
InnoTuf® TP Series Liquid Urethanes create goods with ultra-high impact strengths. These materials are used for forming protective coverings on products such as small wooden boat keels.
Polyurethane Foams are perfect for impact resistant padding found in football helmets and other sporting equipment.

To preserve wildlife of all sizes…from small bird heads to medium-sized fish bodies to large deer antlers…taxidermists rely on a variety of polyurethanes. These liquid plastic casting resins are ideal for taxidermy because many of the systems are economical and easy to handle for either hand casting or rotomolding. Polyurethanes are available as rigid foams as well as Shore D hardness systems for excellent durability. Also popular for taxidermy are RTV silicone rubber moldmaking materials.
Innovative Polymers taxidermy products include:
IE Series Shore D Polyurethanes are tough enough to produce long-lasting, highly detailed replications of wildlife in all sizes and shapes. Translucent products are well suited for forming fish fins. Many of the Shore D hardness systems are also ideal for building taxidermy cores and for silicone mold back-up jackets.
Polyurethane Foams in 4 lb. and 6 lb. densities are used to produce rigid taxidermy cores of all sizes.
RTV Silicone Rubbers are suitable for building flexible molds as well as “glove” molds that can be backed with economical polyurethanes to reduce the cost of preserving large parts.
