Tooling – models, patterns, molds and fixtures Print E-mail

Molds, patterns and fixtures are cast from polyurethanes or RTV silicone rubbers to significantly reduce costs and lead times compared with metal tooling. “Soft” molds are ideal for rapid production of 10 to 100 high quality, thermoplastic-like prototypes. Patterns and fixtures cast from polyurethanes feature excellent dimensional accuracy and stability as well as outstanding abrasion resistance for extended service life.

Innovative Polymers manufactures Shore A and Shore D hardness polyurethanes that are specifically formulated for tooling applications. We also supply a broad range of RTV silicone rubbers for moldmaking. The products are easy to mix and pour, set fast and cure at room temperature. Key properties include:

Polyurethanes

  • Hardness ranges: Shore 70-95A and Shore 40-60D
  • Minimal shrinkage
  • Low exotherm to accommodate large castings in a single pour
  • Good mechanical characteristics with high elongation and tear strengths
  • Outstanding reproduction of detail

RTV Silicones

  • Shore A hardness ranges from 5-70A.
  • Minimal to no shrinkage
  • Excellent elongation and tear strength
  • Outstanding reproduction of detail
