Innovative Polymers has a broad range of polyurethanes for the production of water clear prototypes, initial parts and low volume production including Advanced Shore D Polyurethanes, Rapid Cast, Fast Cure Polyurethanes and Vacuum Assisted Casting Polyurethanes. Several of the water clear products are easy to buff and polish for lens making, light pipes and pillow optics. The materials are also ideal for vacuum casting thin-walled clear parts and dental and medical demonstration models.

Specific products featured in the Innovative Polymers clear casting line are:

Shore A Elastomers are low-viscosity systems that attain rapid green strength and are color-matchable to customer specifications. Innovative Polymers new line water clear elastomers includes:

  • OC-5050 is a Shore 50A hardness material with an elongation of 65% and tear strength of 40 pli.
  • OC-5060 is slightly more flexible that IE-5050 with an elongation of 90%. It is a Shore 60A hardness product with a tear strength of 30 pli.
  • OC-5070 has a hardness of Shore 70A. It features an elongation of 85% with a tear strength of 45 pli.
  • OC-5080 Shore 80A hardness polyurethane is tougher than the other elastomers in this family with an elongation of 95% and tear strength of 60 pli.
  • OC-5090 is the most durable elastomer in the IE-5000 series water clear line. It is a Shore 90A hardness system with a tensile strength of 2,100 psi, elongation of 65% and tear strength of 250 pli.

Advanced Shore D Polyurethanes are easy to mix, hand pourable products suited for mass casting of multiple parts. Featured in this product family are two water clear systems:

  • IE-72DC has a 17-minute gel time, Shore 80D hardness, flexural modulus of 325,000 psi and tensile strength of 10,000 psi.
  • OC-7085 has an extended gel time of more than 100 minutes for use in mass casting applications. The material is UV stable and exhibits a high tensile strength 10 10,500 psi, a flexural modulus of 345,000 psi and heat deflection temperature of 196ºF (91ºC).

Rapid Cast, Fast Cure Polyurethanes gel very quickly requiring dispensing via automated meter/mix equipment. The materials can be demolded in 10 to 30 minutes for most parts. The water clear system in this product family is:

  • RC-72DC has a Shore hardness of 75D, flexural modulus of 325,000 psi and heat deflection temperature of 189ºF (87ºC).

Vacuum Assisted Casting Polyurethanes feature low viscosities and rapid green strength for vacuum casting of void-free prototypes and parts. Two water-clear materials are included among the Shore D hardness products in this line:

  • VA-273 has a 12-minute gel time, Shore 85D hardness, flexural modulus of 350,000 psi and heat deflection temperature of 194ºF (90ºC).
  • VA-274 is a very low viscosity system with an 18 minute gel time. The cured product features a Shore 83D hardness, flexural modulus of 365,000 psi and heat deflection temperature of 158ºD (70ºC).
